WENATCHEE — Kenneth “Gunny” Cornwell laid a wreath for the Purple Heart Association at the Memorial star at Wenatchee Cemetery on Memorial Day.
The 87-year-old Wenatchee man returned a minute later to place another wreath on the star on behalf of the Marine Corps League.
“This is a very special day for me,” the lifetime U.S. Marine said. “It makes me realize how fortunate I am to still be here.”
