What are the odds?
I read with interest the odds of the “average joe hack to ever claim a par-3 one” are an astronomical 12,7000 to 1 ( .0079 percent), quoted in Dan Sollom’s “They call me Mr. Lucky” commentary in the May 13 World. Certainly a rather rare occurrence, for the most part, unless you were a member of Wenatchee North Rotary back in 2007-08 when eight of the 46 on the club’s membership roster had recorded at least one ace to that time (a couple even had two). That amounts to a quite incredible 17.4 percent of all the members who had officially knocked one into the cup from the tee. Incidentally, only about half of the members played golf, so the percentage of ace-posting hackers in the group was more like 34.8 percent (or in excess of 1 in 3 golfers).
