Arturo Guerrero didn’t have any high school coaching experience when he was named as the Quincy boys soccer team’s head man after the only sideline leader in the program’s history, Tom Turner, was diagnosed with brain cancer last fall.

But Guerrero had been around the game virtually his entire life, and had spent years coaching youth teams in Wenatchee. In years past, Guerrero (who works at Quincy High School’s counseling and career center) couldn’t keep an eye on the Quincy program as much as he wanted to, but Turner, a teacher at the school, made a habit of dropping by Guerrero’s office every once in a while to talk soccer.
