Joseph Lee “Joe” Hodgson

June 16, 1946 ~ August 28, 2014

Joseph Lee Hodgson, 68, died at home on August 29, 2014. Born to Floyd and Mabel (Johnson) Hodgson on June 16, 1946, at Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Pasco, WA, Joe lived his childhood camping, fishing and hunting with his family. He attended Kennewick High School, where he played varsity football and baseball. At age 14, he joined the workforce, employed by Mayfair Markets. He became a manager at the age of 19, traveling to troubleshoot store operations in other locations. In 1964, he married Stephanie Montague from Kennewick, WA and had three children, Joe, Marcie and Jennifer. In 1977, he moved to Wenatchee to manage Fleenor’s Market on Fifth Street. He married Jan (Janet Moss) Hodgson from Cashmere, WA in 1978. In 1984, he purchased his own store in Stevensville, MT (Joe’s Food Market) and later moved back to Wenatchee to resume management of Fleenor’s Market. He was employed by Weinstein Beverage Company “Pepsi” for 24 years, where he made many valuable relationships with his coworkers and the business community. Joe loved sharing his knowledge of fishing and hunting with friends and family and spending time watching his bird dogs work the field, including his beloved dog, “Gunner”, who turned out to be more of a lap dog than a hunter. He looked forward to his favorite backpacking trip to Kelly Creek in Idaho with his wife, Jan, his brother, John, and sister-in-law, Doris. He made the trip for ten consecutive years, where he claimed the fish, wildlife, fresh air and scenery were as close to God and Heaven as anyone could get.

Survivors include his wife, Jan Hodgson of Cashmere; his mother, Mabel Hodgson (age 99) of Kennewick, WA; his children, Joe (Alli) Hodgson of Buckley, WA, Marcie (Bud) Johnson of Denver, CO, and Jennifer (Michael) Breese of Denver, CO; his grandchildren, Seth, Holly, Kaytee, Tristan Hodgson (Joe), Hayden, Adam, Jessica Hertzler (Marcie), Andy Hodgson, and Tanner Breese (Jennifer); his siblings, John (Doris) Hodgson, Joyce (Bob) Tyrrell, and Jim (Marilyn) Hodgson; and many aunts, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Hodgson of Kennewick, WA; and his half-brother, Gene Hodgson of Athena, OR.

A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held at the Cashmere High School Community Center on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Central Washington Hospital Home Care and Hospice, 1201 South Miller Street, Wenatchee, WA 98801, or a charity of your choice.
