Four questions with… Olivia de la Cruz

For as long as she can remember, Chelan native Olivia de la Cruz has been drawn to music. So as a young woman with a big voice, she took a job as a singing server at Tsillan Cellars, “an experience that tore down the last shreds of self-consciousness and gave her the gift of fearlessness,” according to her official bio. Nowadays, she’s part of a tight-knit group of professional musicians living in Seattle, playing her unique brand of folksy, lyrical Americana at frequent gigs around the state as her career ...

Motopony plays Caffè Mela tonight, a homecoming for guitarist and singer Mike Notter

WENATCHEE — Mike Notter is a realist. Even now, as a valued member of two acclaimed Seattle-based bands, the Wenatchee native is keeping his day job as a window washer. It’s the responsible thing to do, he says. But with one of those bands — indie rockers Motopony — having a bit of a moment, releasing a new album and hitting the road, there may soon come a time when Notter hangs up his squeegee.

Back to the blues: Winthrop festival returns for 28th year

Tomorrow marks the one-year anniversary of the Carlton Complex Fire, when four separate wildfires merged into one massive force that destroyed 300 homes in Okanogan County. While the largest wildfire in Washington history raged and smoke and panic spread through most of the Methow Valley, nearly 2,000 people gathered on a ranch just outside of Winthrop to dance and sing the blues.

Summer concert series returns to Ohme Gardens tonight

Ohme Gardens — with its serene pools of water, shaded stone pathways, cool temperatures and unbeatable views of the valley — is about as special a backdrop for live music as you can get around here. Tonight, the five-show Summer Concerts in the Gardens series kicks off at the alpine retreat with Seattle jazz guitarist Michael Powers and his band. All shows start at 6:30 p.m. The series organizers, Robert and Rio Sandidge of RLS Productions, will set aside 25 percent of the net ticket sales for an endowed Wenatchee ...

The Wicks: On fire and back home for one night at Mela

The Wicks are coming home, at least temporarily. Husband-and-wife duo Jedidiah and Pauline Wick formed The Wicks in 2011, while they were living in Cashmere. Last year, they moved to the Fort Worth area, picked up a third member in vocalist and lead guitarist John Charles Ledbetter and continued to tour and win fans with their foot-stomping soul-folk music. Now they’re back, touring Washington and playing before a hometown crowd Friday night at Caffè Mela.

The Cave Singers hit Caffè Mela Saturday

In my experience, folks who complain over a lack of local entertainment options have rarely checked to see if there are any. Those grousing over our anemic music and art scene are the same who stay in more often than not, curled up on couches, choosing the boob tube over live entertainment.

Poker is in, live music is out at the new Clearwater

The rumors are true. The Clearwater Steakhouse & Saloon has new owners. Dave and Neang “Touch” Dvorak, Jerry Howe and Bill Harrison took ownership of the East Wenatchee bar and restaurant on Jan. 1 from longtime owner Ken Dominguez. And while they promise that much will remain the same — the popular menu, the bar and kitchen staff and the Old West theme — the place is getting a major facelift. The right side of what is now called the Clearwater Saloon & Casino is being converted into a card ...

Sixteen-year-old Kennadi Hawes has wanted nothing more than to play music and sing since she was 4 years old. As her mother, Melanie recalls, her first word was “sing.”
