Business Past: Pioneer concrete maker

Columbia Concrete Pipe Co. opened for business in this plant located at the corner of Ninth Street and Walla Walla Avenue in the fall of 1932. It was here that the company’s first ready-mix concrete was made around 1934-35, using a small mixer and a two-wheel cart. The business, at its peak, produced concrete pipe sections for many North Central Washington irrigation projects. The building was demolished in 1986. (Business World file photo)
