Chelan-Douglas Trends: Nonwhites as a share of total population

Racial and ethnic diversity bring many benefits to a community — cultural, educational and economic. In the eyes of some, the share of the nonwhite population serves as a yardstick for the welcome a community offers newcomers. Since the U.S. has witnessed a large jump in immigration over the past 20 years and since native-born, nonwhite fertility rates are higher than whites, the national share of nonwhites has increased.
