Cashmere, Okanogan set for Saturday hoops showdown
CASHMERE — Ever since the Cashmere boys basketball squad ascended to the top spot in the Associated Press 1A state poll four weeks ago, the Bulldogs have known that in order to keep on winning and hold on to that lofty ranking that they must be prepared for every opponent’s absolute best effort. Now that the playoffs are here, Cashmere’s players know that their games from here on out will be even more intense. That was certainly the case in the Bulldogs’ Caribou Trail League first-round district contest Thursday against Cascade at Ron Doane Gymnasium. Even though Cashmere was up by as many as 18 points in the second half en route to a 55-41 victory, the Bulldogs never really felt comfortable with their lead. Cashmere was, in the words of coach Keith Boyd, “out of sync” for most of the game, and the Kodiaks put forth one of their best efforts of the year, especially considering the they were without leading scorer Tyler Harrod, out with a broken foot.
