SEATTLE (AP) — Adam Jones hit a two-run homer in the top of the 11th inning and the Baltimore Orioles won their 15th straight extra-innings game with a 3-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night. A night after the teams played an 18-inning marathon that lasted nearly 6 hours, Jones, the one-time Mariners prospect, gave Baltimore a huge boost in its race with the Yankees for the lead in the AL East. Even with New York sweeping a doubleheader from Toronto on Wednesday, the Orioles stayed just a ...

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nick Sherry had a career-game for UNLV. It just wasn't enough to help the Rebels end an eight-game losing streak and beat Washington State. Sherry passed for 351 yards and three touchdowns and had 33 completions to tie a school record set by Jon Denton in 1996 against San Jose State. He couldn't rally the Rebels from a 15-point fourth quarter deficit and UNLV fell 35-27 to the Cougars on Friday night.
NEW YORK (AP) — The replacement officials' error that awarded an extra timeout to Seattle in the final minute of its loss at Arizona was the third such mistake in an NFL game in the last nine years. In 2009, the Cleveland Browns were mistakenly awarded four timeouts in the second half of a 16-0 home loss to Baltimore. And in 2003, the Baltimore Ravens got four in a 44-41 overtime win against Seattle.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Forget all the hand-wringing surrounding the Seattle Seahawks' final drive against Arizona, the botched timeout situation and ultimately Russell Wilson's last pass attempt that eluded the hands of Braylon Edwards at the goal line. For all the focus on that one drive, there were plenty of other opportunities the Seahawks missed earlier in the 20-16 loss to the Cardinals.
SEATTLE (AP) — George Kottaras homered for the second straight game, Brett Anderson won his fourth straight start since recovering from Tommy John surgery and the Oakland Athletics beat the Seattle Mariners 6-1 Saturday night. PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — Eastern Washington nearly knocked off a second FBS team this season. Washington State barely hung on to beat Eastern Washington 24-20 on Saturday, as the Cougars had to knock down a final pass in the end zone to ensure the victory.
SEATTLE (AP) — A.J. Griffin not only felt the burden of trying to end the Oakland Athletics' three-game losing streak. There also was the weight of heavy hearts over teammate Brandon McCarthy. McCarthy, the A's 29-year-old pitcher, remained behind in a Bay Area hospital after taking a line drive to the head in Wednesday's game. He suffered an epidural hemorrhage, brain contusion and skull fracture and had two hours of surgery to relieve pressure. He is in stable condition.
SEATTLE (AP) — Oakland Athletics pitcher Brandon McCarthy remains in a "life-threatening" situation in a Bay Area hospital two days after being hit in the head by a line drive. He had two hours of surgery to relieve pressure on his brain late Wednesday night.
SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Mariners and Boston Red Sox look like two teams headed in opposite directions. Kevin Millwood pitched six stingy innings to win for the first time in 5½ weeks and Seattle beat the staggering Red Sox 2-1 Wednesday night, handing Boston its eighth defeat in nine games.
SEATTLE (AP) — Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine insisted Wednesday he wasn't serious when he threatened to "punch" a radio talk-show host in the mouth. Valentine said he made it clear he was kidding when he made the comment earlier in the day during an interview on Boston station WEEI with hosts Glenn Ordway and Michael Holley.
CHICAGO (AP) — Stunned by a monumental bullpen collapse, the Chicago White Sox showed their resolve and validated their position atop the AL Central. Paul Konerko's single with one out in the bottom of the ninth — his third hit of the game — gave Chicago a dramatic 9-8 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Rookie quarterback Russell Wilson staked his claim to the starting job in Seattle on Friday night, throwing for 185 yards and two touchdowns while leading the Seahawks to a 44-14 rout of the Kansas City Chiefs. Wilson has been competing for the job with Matt Flynn, who was held out of the game with a sore elbow, and he got a lot of help from the rest of the Seahawks.
