Local firefighters complete training regimen

LAKE WENATCHEE — Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue firefighters David Millard, Jodi Gage, Patrick McGarry, Drew Salinger, Kyle Olson, Josiah Norby, Dawson D’Atre and Carl March completed a training academy Dec. 9.

WHS debate team wins top honors

WENATCHEE — Wenatchee High School’s Speech and Debate team swept its Dec. 10 home tournament, earning honors as the top individual events school, top debate school and top large squad.

Local gift drive provides over 10,000 gifts for needy kids

NCW — During Operation Christmas Child’s national collection week, Wenatchee area residents donated a record-breaking 10,014 gift boxes for children in need. This year’s collection is up 19 percent from the previous year.

Local students collect donations for the holidays

NCW — Students at John Newbery Elementary School collected over 5,000 nonperishable food items to distribute to school families that might need extra support through the holidays. Jim Broom, Newbery counselor, said students in all grades started the food drive right after Thanksgiving.

Diaper drive will run until Jan. 6

WENATCHEE — Nick McLean Real Estate Group and Chelan Douglas Child Services Association are holding a holiday diaper drive. Donations can be dropped off until Jan. 6.

Reception planned for outgoing commissioner

EPHRATA — A farewell reception has been planned for Grant County Commissioner Carolann Swartz from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 20 in the BOCC Hearing room 101 in the Courthouse Annex.
