EAST WENATCHEE — An East Wenatchee woman had no idea her purse had been stolen from her dining room table while she slept, until she got a call from police Saturday morning asking if she had it. East Wenatchee Police Sgt. OLYMPIA — A state audit released this morning finds that the Chelan-Douglas Regional Support Network was unaware of required accounting and reporting systems, and its management did not receive accurate information about its finances. The RSN distributes state and federal money to mental health services to providers in Chelan and Douglas counties. It is overseen by Douglas County and its governing board includes officials from both counties and other officials.
WENATCHEE — Two Wenatchee Valley high schools will start the coming school year with new principals. Bob Celebrezze has been picked as Wenatchee High School’s new principal. Lance Noell will be Eastmont High School’s new principal.
EAST WENATCHEE — Three East Wenatchee businesses were hit by burglars in the early this morning, and a fourth suffered a broken window but no entry was made, authorities said. So far, businesses have reported cash taken out of registers, and a small safe taken, said Dan Reierson, assistant chief for the East Wenatchee Police Department.
The Cascade Quest sled dog race is being held this weekend at the Lake Wenatchee Recreation Club at Lake Wenatchee. The event is free for spectators, and it will continue on Sunday morning starting with a pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Racing action will continue throughout the morning until after noon, when the mushers return. A new sign guiding westbound traffic off the Sen. George Sellar Bridge into Wenatchee was quickly amended last week when it became apparent that drivers who couldn’t see into the future could be quite confused.
WENATCHEE — The state Department of Ecology on Tuesday banned all outdoor burning and the use of uncertified wood-burning stoves, inserts or fireplaces in Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan counties, until further notice. Current weather conditions has resulted in stagnant air, and air quality monitors in Wenatchee and Twisp recorded moderate air quality, while those in Leavenworth and Okanogan registered air unhealthy for sensitive groups.
WENATCHEE — The number of local motorists receiving DUI tickets during a holiday enforcement period dropped from 92 in 2011 to 54 in 2012 in Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan counties. The decrease may be the result of more people using designated drivers or calling cabs, said Mike Harris, chief of patrol with the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.
