EAST WENATCHEE -- Mayor Steve Lacy has recommended the city council hold off on a vote to impose an annual $20 car tab until city officials make sure the revenues could be used for secondary street improvements. Lacy said Friday that he has advised the council that the state legislature may have created limits that prevent car-tab revenue from being used for neighborhood street repairs – the city’s desired use of the revenue.

Voters are being asked to decide whether to renew a four-year maintenance-and-operations levy that has provided about 15 percent of Eastmont School District’s general-fund budget for the past four years. The current levy is set to expire at the end of 2013 and the renewal levy would take effect in the beginning of 2014.
