Our beloved Retha slipped away from us on August 24, 2014. Retha Ann Collins was born October 30, 1952, in St. Louis, MO to Billy Collins and Mandy Beshears. She grew up at Rock Island, WA with her brothers, Wayne and Bobby, and sister, Mary. She married her best friend, Don Petty, in June 1996, and they lived in East Wenatchee, WA. Those who knew her could describe Retha in three words: heart of gold.
Joseph Lee Hodgson, 68, died at home on August 29, 2014. Born to Floyd and Mabel (Johnson) Hodgson on June 16, 1946, at Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Pasco, WA, Joe lived his childhood camping, fishing and hunting with his family. He attended Kennewick High School, where he played varsity football and baseball. At age 14, he joined the workforce, employed by Mayfair Markets. He became a manager at the age of 19, traveling to troubleshoot store operations in other locations.
Elvin "Doyle" Weatherford was called home to be with the Lord on August 27, 2014, with his family present at his bedside. John Richard Files Jr. left this world on August 26, 2014, after a brave battle with Amyloidosis. He was born on August 26, 1927, to John R. Files, Sr. and Elizabeth (Plough) Files. John began his life on Wenatchee Heights. He attended schools in Wenatchee and served in the United States Navy from August 17, 1945, until his honorable discharge on July 21, 1948. He married the love of his life, Arvella Williams, on August 27, 1949.
Michael T. Fleming went to be with the Lord on August 27, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with Huntington's disease. Mike was born on April 10, 1967, to Garleon and Beverly Fleming of Wenatchee, WA. He attended Washington and Columbia Elementary, Pioneer Jr. High, and Wenatchee High School. During his youth, Mike enjoyed a variety of sports and hobbies, including baseball, soccer, and tennis. Mike also enjoyed being part of many musical theatre productions at Wenatchee High School and also sang in various choirs, including WHS Chamber Singers.
Sandra K. "Sandy" Oakes, 67, a longtime Wenatchee Valley resident, joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, after her brief, courageous battle with cancer. After her parents moved from Albion, NE, she was born on October 21, 1946, the youngest of 11 children, in Wenatchee, WA. She attended Wenatchee Schools and graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1964.
Sandy Leah (Draper) Tripp Younkin passed away peacefully on August 27, 2014, at Avalon Adult Care Home in East Wenatchee, WA, following a short illness. Sandy was born in Provo, UT to Zira and Elsie Draper on June 23, 1930. She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; four brothers; one daughter, Elsie "Fay" Johnson; and one grandson, David Johnson.
Kenneth Clark Brumbaugh passed away Friday, August 29, 2014 at Bonaventure Assisted Living in East Wenatchee. He was born November 17, 1925 and raised in the Methow Valley. At age 16 he joined the Navy, serving four years prior to discharge. He married Hazel Vay Clapp in 1946. They had two children, Harvey and Diana. He was a self employed carpenter, building many homes in the Wenatchee area. He was an avid golfer and he loved to fish and hunt. He was a member of the American Legion in Wenatchee.
Raymond Bruce Braley, 85, of East Wenatchee, WA, died Saturday August 23, 2014, at his home in East Wenatchee, WA. He was born on February 20, 1929, in Harmony, ME to William and Lena Braley. Ray lived most of his life in the Wenatchee area, but missed the beauty of his childhood home in Maine, especially in the fall. He joined the Army in 1949 and served his country proudly during the Korean War. Ray retired from Alcoa after 31 years in 1984.
Beloved wife, mother, sister and "grama," Lucille P. Ferderer, 79, a resident of Leavenworth, WA for 26 years, joined her son, Gary, in heaven Monday evening, August 25, 2014, after a two-year battle with lung cancer. Her family was by her side during her last days, sharing stories, laughter, and tears.
