WENATCHEE — Despite a number of departures from last year’s Big Nine championship team, the Wenatchee volleyball squad picked up where it left off with a dominant win over cross-river rival Eastmont on Wednesday.
WENATCHEE — Clint Kyhl, deputy forest supervisor for the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest since 2009, has been promoted to supervisor of the Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming. Kyhl, 52, will begin work in Jackson, Wyo., on July 28.
SECAUCUS, N.J. — Left-handed pitcher Marco Gonzales made history Thursday afternoon. The talented southpaw from Gonzaga and the AppleSox was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals at No. 19, which is the highest a Zag or AppleSox player has ever been drafted.
WENATCHEE — Efforts to improve school lunches offered in the Wenatchee School District have gained statewide attention. Best known is the district’s farm to school food program, which, in its third year, purchased about $70,000 worth of fresh fruits and vegetables from local farms this year.
WENATCHEE — It’s nearly noon on Thursday, and students at Mission View Elementary School are pouring through the hot-lunch line, then fanning out to the fruit and salad bars, and past an end table where whole wheat rolls are handed out. There, Kent Getzin, Wenatchee School District’s food service director, tries to lure each child into accepting just one sprig of fresh, garlic-roasted asparagus onto their tray.
PATEROS — The dark clouds looked threatening enough, but the roar of thunder that rolled up from Wenatchee to Oroville on Saturday didn’t come from the sky. It came from the 180 motorcycles stretching out for more than a mile as they rode 150 miles north for the 11th Annual Run for the Border charity ride.
