What is NIE?
The Newspaper in Education program encourages the use of newspapers in the classroom to promote literacy and to help teach the state essential learning goals. Newspapers bring the real world to the classroom by teaching lifelong learning skills.
How does the NIE program work?
Newspaper in Education builds a partnership between local businesses and North Central Washington educators. A community partner’s donation allows teachers to order as many newspapers as they need to use in their classroom. FREE newspapers and curriculum for all subject areas and grade levels are available to teachers.
• Newspapers are available Monday through Friday, September 1st through May 31st of each school year. Newspapers are not delivered on weekends or during scheduled school breaks.
• The teacher chooses the day(s) of the week they want to use the newspaper in their classroom.
• The teacher chooses the number of papers they would like to order with a minimum of five newspapers on any given day.
