North Central Washington Spelling Bees

The NCW Spelling Bees are feeder bees to the Scripps National Spelling bee held each year in Washington D.C. Children in grades 4-8 in North Central Washington are invited to participate in the NCW Spelling Bees. The spelling bees are open to students in public, private and home schools. Nearly 1600 students in 60 NCW schools participate. Spellers compete in grade level bees at the Okanogan, Grant, and Chelan/Douglas County Bees in February. The top grade level spellers advance to The NCW Regional Spelling Bee in March, where they spell down to the NCW Regional Champion. The champion and chaperone receive and all expense paid trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee held the last week in May. Registration takes place at the individual schools. Literacy Council of Chelan & Douglas Spelling Bee

The Wenatchee World participates in the annual Literacy Council of Chelan & Douglas Counties Spelling Bee. Adults from local businesses participate in this bee to raise funds for the Literacy Council. For more information contact Verellen@wvc.edu.

Registration Information: Registration deadline for the 2011 NCW Spelling Bees is Oct. 15, 2010. The cost is $99 per school. After that date, a late registration fee will be assessed. Public and Private school registration: To register, go to www.spellingbee.com/enrollment.

Grant County Spelling Bee: Feb. 15, 2011, Soap Lake Elementary School, @ 6:00 p.m.
Chelan-Douglas County Spelling Bee : tentatively set for Feb. 17, 2011, Pioneer Middle School, Wenatchee, @ 6:00 p.m.
Okanogan County Spelling Bee: Feb. 24, 2011, Omak Middle School, @ 6:00 p.m.
NCW Regional Spelling Bee: March 22, 2011, Eastmont Junior High School, @ 6:00 p.m.
