Osprey on a nesting platform at Confluence State Park. The nesting platform is just across the street from the offices of Columbia Marketing International and the staff there have named the mated pair Russell and Carroll, fitting Seahawks names. According to Kelly Cordell-Stine, a wildlife biologist with Chelan County PUD, this time of year the young are growing their flight feathers and getting the strength needed to fly. "From late July through mid-August, the young will be flying and learning from the adults how to catch fish from the rivers. The next few weeks, people may see and hear more osprey in the air as the young take flight," said Cordell-Stine. The young birds will continue to use the nest as a feeding platform and home base until they migrate south for the winter by mid-September. For a photo gallery of the osprey nest see the web at wenatcheeworld.com.
