I bought in to the advertising and voted for this, thinking that competition in the free market would bring prices down. That has not been the case. I should have remembered that private corporate greed and the extra middleman trying to make a profit will ALWAYS drive prices up. When can we get things back the way they were?

There was an 18% tax increase and a by volume tax in the bill.

There is no extra middle man. In fact retailers can bypass the distributors now...cutting out the middle man if they want. It's not the greed of the corporations driving prices up, it's the extra taxes and fees.

With the exception of 4 or 5 bottles of wine per year, I don't drink so it hasn't been an issue. I used to be quite the beer drinker though, and now consume a fair amount of O'Doul's I notice that the price on this and the alcoholic brews has gone up quite a bit in the last year. Can't help but wonder if the retailers or distributors just figured they might as well raise that too since liquor was going up. I'm still miffed that the NA beers are treated as alcohol by the retailers. It says non alcoholic right on the label, so why does it say alcohol on my sales receipt?

Oh! Before you purists bounce me, I realize that it still contains a minute amount of alcohol. One half of one percent is hardly what I would call an alcoholic beverage. You get more than that by rinsing your mouth with Scope.

Shhhhhhh, they will put an 18% and $3 a liter tax on mouthwash if they figure that out :-)

I was 50/50 on getting the state out of the liquor business. I didn't want to see people lose jobs but felt the state shouldn't be involved like they were. I was sure though that pricing wouldn't be affected that much. Did you know you can buy alcohol from out of state and have it ship here legally without the extra taxes? Same with cigars & chewing tobacco. Cigarettes are another story though.

Shhhh...don't let the secret out. I think I'm paying about 60% of what I pay in state when I buy the 1.75L bottles online, and FedEx delivers it to my door. I'm sure it won't catch on because most folks don't plan ahead for their booze, but it is a penny pincher's dream!

I'm all for buying in volume but now I have no choice but to buy a gallon of booze. I can't seem to find small bottles. I don't need gallons of liquor in my house. I still think the State should be in the liquor business. I suspect the tax amount which is be paid for rehab will quietly disappear after the renewal date. If I recall that's in about 3 years.

Try the old liquor stores. They have great variety.

Don't need no damn alcohol to feel/enjoy/relax better. Prozac is only $4.00 a month's supply and work's a helluva lot better.

Yeah, I do O'Douls also in the summer months. It's refreshing and the alcohol level is so small that the depressant level of the alcohol doesn't negate my anti/depressant/anxiety/irritability/brooding/general grumpiness properties of the Prozac.

Also at my age (almost 66) the antidepressant effect many are finding may very well prove to have a prophylactic effect in the battle with Alzheimer's. Alcohol predisposes too many to Alzheimer's.

I don' t drink alcohol and I only see the effect of this law at Costco where they used to stock several shelves with useful items that now sell only alcohol. More is added each week.

I don't buy as much, can't afford the 70% tax, the State is still making their money, and they don't even have to touch a bottle. I thought prices would go down with the State employees out of it, sure was wrong there, although, WA has always been known for their high Sin and Gas taxes. If they keep it up, they will tax themselves right out of business.

I buy the same amount of alcohol — but in Idaho and Oregon. The prices in Washington are absurd. Of course, I make my own alcohol (mostly wine,) too.
