such an easy thing to do that I cannot imagine what the problem is. Stop foolish spending. Quit giving out billions in grants for asinine projects. Get our troops out of Afghanistan and Africa. Stop sending billions of aid to countries that hate us let them hate us for free. Give congress some much needed pay cuts. Put congress and the senate on social security rather than their own special tax payer retirement, Put the politicians all on their wonderful Obama care instead of the taxpayer funder special health care programs. How much money a month would this save? Sad that the president has never had to run a business or even a family budget.
These idiots have been spending far too much for far too long. They'll never even attempt to get a handle on it unless or until something drastic happens.
And here we are. Not so drastic perhaps. Certainly not the "doom and gloom" we're spoon-fed from a left-leaning media machine.
But it's a start. A good, necessary, and not entirely un-welcome one at that.
Those DUMB_ do not care about their constituents. All they are there for is how to line their own pockets. The republicans don't want to remove loophole in the income taxes. The democrats do but that means, according to the republicans, it is a raise in taxes. The laws are already on the books, just that they, both parties, have approved the loophole in the past.
"We now have a standing army of armed bureaucrats in the TSA, CIA, FBI, Fish and Wildlife, FEMA, Corps of Engineers, etc. numbering over 100,000. Citizens are guilty until proven innocent in the unconstitutional administrative courts." Ron Paul, in his farewell address to Congress.
Wake up. It's not like there isn't plenty of spending to cut, in some areas that well and truly do not deserve the power and influence that they have.
lonedog3 said it all except for the border issue. When we bring the troops home from protecting other countries all over the world, let's put them along OUR borders-- the Mexican border and the Canadian border. And make sure they are armed and dangerous.
well I was going to go into the whole boarder thing by securing them then removing all of the illegals from the welfare roles, the school system, the free housing, the free medical care, food stamps etc. etc. but that is another whole can of worms.
Please tell us about all these other countries we are protecting? You mean like Afghanistan and Pakistan and Yemen. The countries who have resources we want? The US military is only protecting what oil companies and other enormous corporations want. Don't kid yourself.
Peggy, thanks for oversimplifying a complex issue. Here is a list of countries overseas by military branch for your perusal. For all our benefit, please list in detail all their resources that are in play by having U.S. military bases on their soil. Thanks, we'll wait.....
Peggy, Afghanistan does not have any oil production or proven oil reserves. They do have an abundance of goats, though, but I don't believe their goat production is any match for ours.
Funny how your "data" just happened to appear in a thread wherein Peggy said, "The US military is only protecting what oil companies and other enormous corporations want."
I doubt a deal is reached by Friday..but a deal will be reached. Some of the cuts are a great idea, some of them will be devastating to the recovering economy.
I think most, if not all, of us will agree that the cuts that they do keep will be the one's that hurt the poor and middle class. I read an article today that schools are already gearing up to lay off more teachers, especially for the developmentally disabled.
Well, since it was the President who proposed and lobbied for the Sequestration deal, it seems that Mr. Obama is the one who is getting his way. As was the case when the Sequestration deal was made and passed into legislation, the repug-licans are simply letting him have his way.
Cut all the outside contractors in the Dept of Defense. Stop cost plus contracts at the DOD. There's so much pork fat in that place it wouldn't be missed.
This is ONLY a 2% cut in the GROWTH of spending. And this is draconian? Give me a break. I bet everyone here has had to cut back somewhere in their budget because of this economy. Why are the feds above cutting back? Ridiculous.

How about an option to vote, "I hope not."

Afghanistan's major export product is neither oil nor goats; its heroin.

So, the US military is only protecting what oil companies and other enormous corporations want, and they want heroin?
I find that rather hard to believe.
Norm 2 months, 3 weeks ago
You're making stuff up out of thin air. I made a statement about Afghanistan's major export, nothing more.

Coincidence?
Norm 2 months, 3 weeks ago
So, your oily goats are heroin addicts?
I find that rather hard to believe.

I find it most amusing that Obama is now telling us what a bad idea sequestration is when, in fact, most (all?) of it was his idea.
Talk about your classic Doublespeak.

And what kinds of cuts in salary, medical and security will be made for Congress?

Cut all the outside contractors in the Dept of Defense. Stop cost plus contracts at the DOD. There's so much pork fat in that place it wouldn't be missed.

Why not cut out the military all together? Would that suit you, Peggy?

the feds do not have to cut back as like the city of Wenatchee, they know all they have to do is raise your taxes.
