well it darn sure wasn't "we the people" that won. Higher taxes and very few cuts in government spending. One side refuses to cut government spending and the other side refuses to raise taxes. Whatever happened to those we the people elect working for us? why are they working harder for the lobbyist and special interest groups? Our elected officials have become so corrupt and greedy it is no longer about the citizens and what is best for this nation but rather their pocket books. How many elected officials in D.C. have become multi-millionaires while in an elected position off of our tax money? so very sad!
Lonedog, I totally agree with you and give you an upvote. Since we elect these people (in effect, HIRE them), why can't we evaluate them every year and FIRE them, just like in private business. If I aint doing my job, I get let go. Simple.
Very simply, our economy as it is cannot sustain the current size of government. This presents two choices: reduce the size of government and keep our economic system, or throw out the economic system and try something else. By re-electing BHO the voters decided in 2012 to throw out the economy, which in turn means there will be new sets of winners and losers. What one might call special interest groups are the winners, the bitter losers include the rest of us.
Spot on Joe, Wonder how many Americans remember the time when slick willie ws pres and the Democrats walked off and hid for 3 months because they could not get their way. There is not another single working American who can walk off their jobs and not get fired. The People did nothing and I am just as guilty. Really sad state we are all in now
I read just over $41 in revenue increases for every dollar in cuts. That's upside down on its face.
In the AAA Livestock Market Digest last week, there were murmors of a carbon tax in this package- one that would not preculde the EPA from additionally regulating carbon on its own.
Does anybody know if that proviso survived?
And given the way this bill went, I think the big punchline to the whole joke will be hitting us in the upcoming debt ceiling talks...
I have to agree.. I'm for "WE THE PEOPLE" that has gone on the way side and no longer is a priority.. We have to work harder, pay more and to me neither side wins. Congress has a pay increase and they are guaranteed their pay no matter what, to where we have to work harder to make our ends meet. I would like to know who pumps their gas at the gas station? Who buys their groceries? What type of medical do they have and what are thier co-pays if any??? I fear for our families and our children and grandchildren. It's all about GREED and our constitution is no longer important. The people who fought so hard for our freedom of life and well being is GONE! So sad.. =(.
I thought I read that the Demorat controlled Senate voted to NOT get a pay increase this year? What about the GOP controlled House? Did they do the same? Does all of Congress go w/the Senate re pay? Not that it helps the deficit. But it may help the House from a "we share your pain" kinda' way...
This long drawn out process has done nothing but demonstrate the lack of leadership by the president, Senate and House leadership and unfortunately by our own Senator Murray. This lack of leadership continues to hurt the United States.

It's especially disturbing that Congress is not fazed about the lack of faith we have in them as pointed out in this NBC article http://nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/01/03/16309992-unloved-for-so-long-congress-not-fazed-by-publics-disapproval?lite
