Christian Bale on Tues-day denied allegations of assault made by his mother and sister, hours after the star of "The Dark Knight" was arrested, questioned by London police and released.
The 34-year-old actor spent four hours at a police station, but was not charged and was released on bail. British media reported that Bale's mother and sister complained he had assaulted them at a hotel in London on Sunday night.
Bale's London-based law firm said Bale denied that an assault took place.
"Christian Bale attended a London police station today on a voluntary basis," the statement read. The Sun newspaper said Sharon and Jenny Bale had made the complaint.
Kid Rock has been sentenced to a year's probation and fined $1,000 for his role in a fight at a suburban Atlanta Waffle House last fall.
The DeKalb County solicitor's office said the 37-year-old was also sentenced Monday to six hours of anger management counseling and 80 hours of community service.
The entertainer, whose real name is Robert J. Ritchie, pleaded no contest to one count of simple battery. Four counts of battery were dropped.
Ritchie's tour bus stopped at the Waffle House about 5 a.m. on Oct. 21 after a performance in downtown Atlanta. An exchange of words with a customer escalated into a fight.
Ritchie and five members of his entourage were arrested. They appeared with him in court, and two of them pleaded no contest and received similar sentences of probation and community service. The judge dropped charges against the other three.
"After viewing the videotape, it was decided that they weren't involved," said Artealia Gilliard, spokeswoman for Solicitor-General Robert D. James Jr.
Ritchie's attorney said Tues-day that Ritchie was "not ter-ribly unhappy" with the outcome although he believed he was not at fault.
Could the nationally syndicated movie review show "At the Movies With Ebert & Roeper" be the same without Roger Ebert, who's leaving the show? Ebert, who cofounded the show with the late Gene Siskel, said Monday that he's bailing because Disney-ABC Domestic Television is taking the show "in a new direction" and he doesn't want to be associated with it.
What if Chicago Sun-Times scribe Richard Roeper also left the show? In fact, he is. Roeper says he and Disney failed to reach a new contract settlement.
Roeper, whose last show will air the weekend of Aug. 16-17, said he will "proceed elsewhere ... as the cohost of a movie review show that honors the standards established by Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert more than 30 years ago."
