HOLDEN VILLAGE — Some years ago, I made the mistake of laying over for a day at Lyman Lake — biding my time (and escaping the mosquitoes and biting flies) by hanging out in my tent. Not that the lake above Holden Village is bad — not with towering peaks to stare at and a nearby glacier to explore. But I kicked myself later for not moving on up sooner to Cloudy Pass, just a mile away and 900 feet higher in elevation.
