Fire near gun club in East Wenatchee
EAST WENATCHEE — Firefighters expected to contain a large brush fire on Badger Mountain by the middle of this afternoon. The fire never threatened any structures and burned only grassland, said Doug Miller, fire marshal for Douglas County Fire District 2. He did not have an estimate of acreage burned.

World takes a holiday — no paper on Friday
So Wenatchee World employees and carriers may spend the holiday with their families, The Wenatchee World will close early tonight for Christmas Eve and will not publish on Christmas Day. The customer service desk will close at 5 this evening and remain closed Friday for the holiday.
Signs of health at one local paper
Like a lot of other industries, newspapers are in a bit of a slump during these tough times. Daily papers are partners in commerce with many businesses, including real estate and automotive advertisers. When they hurt, we hurt. Newspapers feel deeply any widespread economic malaise.

Preferably the papers are turned over before it gets that far.

On Mondays, this page prints an eclectic assortment of comments that online readers contributed during the previous week to World stories posted on wenatcheeworld.com. Like most other articles from the paper, that compilation of comments is posted online. Last week, in a bit of twisty intertwining of media, an online reader made a comment on the comments that had originated online and then were compiled in the printed Wenatchee World and then posted online.
