Woman looking ahead wants boyfriend to adopt her view

I am 20 and have been with my boyfriend, “Griffin,” for five years. He recently gave me a beautiful promise ring. I would like to spend the rest of my life with him, but I think I have a problem. I am going to become an adoption professional, and I plan on adopting one day. Griffin knows I’m pursuing this career and that I want to adopt, but I don’t think he understands how serious I am about it. We don’t plan on being married until after college, when we’ll both be 25.

Literacy Council announces new positions

NCW — East Wenatchee attorney Nicole Pazona and Barbara Oldham, a librarian at Wenatchee Valley College, recently joined the board of the Literacy Council of Chelan and Douglas Counties. Kay Loeffler of Wenatchee and Martha Rodriguez of Santa Clara, Calif., also recently joined the Literacy Council as AmeriCorps volunteers.

Cellphone photos open her eyes

There is a man at work I’m very attracted to. He seems to be equally attracted to me. The problem is, he has shown me two pictures of his privates that he has on his cellphone. When he did it, it wasn’t completely out of context of our conversation and our interest in each other. We do not have a physical relationship (yet), but I’m considering it. How weird is it that he has these pictures on his phone? Got An Eyeful in Illinois

Grandma slow to cheer nuptials

My daughter is annoyed with me because I’m not jumping up and down with joy over my grandson’s forthcoming wedding. Yes, I am happy they’re getting married, but how excited can I get? The two have been sexually involved since they met in high school four years ago. She was 16; he was 17. For the past two years, he and his girlfriend have shared an apartment and lived as man and wife. The bride-to-be’s parents are not exactly thrilled either at the expense of a white gown and a few hundred chicken dinners, hall and band. However, my daughter insists on it and wants everybody to get excited. OK — so I’m excited. Whoopee.

Nearly Olympic cyclist and other games

Competitive mountain bike riders know a thing or two about crash and burn on the track to glory. Just ask Stephen Ettinger of Cashmere. Ettinger, 23, has made a name for himself on the pro mountain bike circuit the past few years. He’s fallen off his bike and slid downhill countless times, but has never veered for long from a decidedly upward trajectory toward some serious goals.

Facebook no substitute for notes

I recently attended a baby shower for a dear high school friend and his wife. The day after the shower, she posted a slideshow on Facebook titled “Thanks for All Our Gifts” with a picture of each gift and who gave it. She has had numerous miscarriages and held this shower at five months, knowing the baby is not yet at a viable stage. While I feel sympathy for her fertility issues, and especially for her husband who desperately wants to be a father, I think this is a bid for attention. I am disgusted at how she seems to be bragging about her haul, yet prepping everyone to give her an outpouring of support if there is another tragic loss.

Dear Abby

Dad has to try a little harder

“Modern Dad in Roswell, Ga.” (Feb. 26) was put off that invitations to his young daughters are sent to his ex-wife’s home rather than to both his and the ex-wife’s. He assumes the sender is “sexist” and suggests the solution for children with two households is to be sent two invitations. As a parent who invites children to my home or to a party, I don’t feel I should be responsible for their parents’ communication difficulty. Often I am not even aware that a child has two households. The invitation simply goes home with the child to wherever he or she is that day.
