Hooking a younger crowd

You are absolutely right. I still wonder about the state of our society when there are regularly rotated prescription drug advertisements on television, convincing people of symptoms that they may not have. The doctor is now the middleman who sets you up with a prescription for a drug you saw advertised on TV. We are all on drugs.

Hooking a younger crowd

People do drugs because they aren't satisfied with reality. If you can find out why the drug user feels the need to escape from existence on a regular basis, you can more effectively treat him/her. There is ALWAYS an underlying cause.

Crowd gathers to support arena

Keep in mind that they probably weren't taken to the cleaners by Global Entertainment and overly-ambitious city leaders either. Also, I LOL'd hard at JimboBear's post...too true man!

Crowd gathers to support arena

"It will be an economic disaster for everyone."
This situation is lose-lose whichever way you try to spin it. Either we vote to increase the sales tax by a yet undetermined amount and hope that the economy does a 180, or the alternative which would involve bankruptcy court for several years and many hundreds of thousands (maybe millions?) of dollars paid to lawyers and spurned bondholders. If you pick option one - to raise the sales tax and keep the arena's doors open - then we are stuck with a building which is unable to generate enough revenue to sustain its operation and will still require subsidies from the City and taxpayers. It all depends on your outlook of the future I guess...Personally, I don't see the economy improving anytime soon and I don't think keeping the TTC is a necessary or viable resource. It is a financial drain on an already weakened City budget, and will continue to be for many years to come. But, then again who knows how much it will cost in the long run to defend ourselves in court against the bondholders? There will be no winners emerging from this debacle.

Flu season running late

Here we go again...This seems to be an annual article in the World. Why do they have an agenda to push flu shots? Are they receiving kickbacks from GSK or Pfizer? Flu shots are worse for you than getting the actual sickness and should be avoided at all costs. The shot itself contains very harmful substances (in most cases it contains MERCURY, an ingredient in the preservative 'Thimerisol') Why anyone would want mercury, one of the most toxic substances on earth, in their body ON PURPOSE completely astounds me.

Bankruptcy looms as groups try to rally support for troubled arena

Stick a fork in it. It's done. The City needs to cut its losses and sell that monstrosity to the highest bidder as soon as possible. Maybe they can use some of the proceeds to pay for the legal representation that they will undoubtedly require in the coming years.

Bankruptcy looms as groups try to rally support for troubled arena

Some of us already think that the sales tax is high enough, thank you. Paying for a non-essential entertainment facility is not an appropriate excuse to raise our sales tax. If Wenatchee wanted this arena so badly, they should have SAVED UP AND BOUGHT IT.

Bankruptcy looms as groups try to rally support for troubled arena

So basically you're saying that the City of Wenatchee is going to cease public services until everyone antes up? I doubt they would be so foolish...people would just move.

Canadian company ready to drill for gold samples

You're mixing two activities and placing them in the same category. Just out of curiosity, how many mines have you worked at?

Canadian company ready to drill for gold samples

Norm, you are comparing CORE DRILLING to an all-out 24/7 mining operation. There is no contradiction because they are two drastically different activities. Core drilling is, as stated, "...benign from an environmetal point of view." An actual underground mining operation would obviously have SOME impact on the landscape and the environment. Most industrial operations usually do.
