Parking has been an issue for a while, and though I understand that people at the horse riding club have problems with it I don't think that this issue is being handled correctly. I seem to recall that every time I've hiked there that there is a parking lot that is locked. Last time I checked "we the people" own the school district building, parking lot, and property that is right next to the trail head. Why can't "we the people" use our property to park? At least let us park there until an officially designated parking area can be figured out. There is a lot of space right there that is covered with junk that could be used for a parking lot. The government federal, state, and local seems to think that by limiting the amount of traffic is going to help with these kind of issues. The less people who are allowed to use "our" land will mean less support for upkeep and payment for places in the outdoors. As a citizen I ask that the local government officials let us use our land so that the horse riding club can have better access to their facilities. I think this is only fair to everyone.
It's to bad that Scott is being attacked like he is. The change that people want in the government is unlikely to change. It may change on the surface, but the deep lying problems of overspending etc... won't go away. In order to have a government that truly looks after the people it would have to be totally restructured and that would really hurt. Many of the people who are rooting for fiscal conservatism don't truly understand what they are asking for. For instance what about cutting social security, medicare, unemployment, etc? That would save us lots of money and the government could cut our taxes or reallocate that money, but how many people who are pushing for this fiscal conservatism think about that? I don't see anything like that being cut. Look at the how much waste there is with the CENSUS work. That's just a SMALL part of our government. Before people attack Scott they should realize things can't happen as they'd like or as fast as they'd like. The best thing to do at this time is to put term limits on our elected officials. Also for people to attack Scott for not walking lock step with the Republicans is ludicris. Althought he ran on a change platform he was elected to serve the people. Even if you disagree with those people. We as a country need to step back and take a deep breath. We need to study out what we want and stop attacking on emotions and following the mob mantality. I find it interesting that we slide hard right and then hard left and then right again. When will we ever learn?
That's just wrong! Seriously! What a horrible representation of a great schooling system and denomination. Just shows that no one is perfect for sure! Probably not just one sided, but he should know better, and being a religion teacher he should act better!
Jeff, I'm glad you brought up the point about sins being treated differently. Sin is sin. "Love the sinner and hate the sin." God loves us all no matter what even if we are not doing what he likes. He tries to help us to have a better life, but it is up to us to change. When I meet people I look for the best in them and treat them as a very special individual. Like I said above, I've met homosexuals before who were great individuals. Did I agree with their lifestyle? No, but I didn't hate them. If I sinning somehow and someone came up to me I would hope that they would treat me with kindness no matter what I was doing, but they wouldn't have to agree with what I was doing. They wouldn't ahve to endorse it to show that they were being kind to me. Many times people think that because someone is different that they shouldn't treat them with respect. That's sad. I feel obligated to treat people with respect and be kind to them, but I do not feel obligated to endorse something I feel is wrong. People may think that I'm doing things that are wrong and they are entitled to do so, but they should at least give me respect. I don't hate homosexuals. I just disagree with the lifestyle. I can still be friendly and kind without endorsing. I encourage everyone to look at the Voter's Pamphlet. It's very informative on what this is truly doing. As it is there are many rights already on the books. Anyway. When I played varsity basketball the games were so much more fun when we were friendly and kind to our opponents. I remember many times helping opponents off the floor or aksing if they were ok. We treated our opponents with respect even though we wanted to win. And if we won. What did we do? We were respectful and didn't rub it in their faces. That is how we should all strive to be. No matter which way this Referendum goes I wish the best for you all.
Just in reply to some of the comments about my comment. Thanks Mavulous for letting me have my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and that is why we are voting on this. I have no problem with someone being by someone as they die. I have no problem with someone being gay (although I disagree with that lifestyle) it's their deal. My conviction is though, to not endorse that lifestyle. Just as someone should not be able to force religion on me I should not be forced to not have religion. So how does that work? Many aspects of our government have religious roots. Go to D.C. and you'll see that there are religious parts to the whole place. Where did the whole idea of moral and immoral come from? Where did no stealing or killing come from? I don't think you have to think like me. General Patton once said that if everyone was thinking alike someone wasn't thinking. So go ahead! Think for yourself, but I may not agree with you all the time. I hope the best for you no matter who you are and no matter what your beliefs are.
R-71 is definately something I will not support. I have nothing against gay people. I've met some very kind gay people. I do believe that they should not be discriminated against. As a Christian I believe that we should hate the sin and not the sinner. I don't agree with their lifestyle, but don't hate them. Why do I not support R-71? Well, because giving them the same rigthts as heterosexual married couples is wrong since it's not the same. As stated this does not enact same sex marriage. All the more reason for this not to be put in place. I do think that legal paperwork can be done to give a partner inheritance, child custody, etc, but wait that can be done without this! Since when do we need a rule that says that? We can already decide that. At the end of this article it say that "What happens if Referendum 71 is rejected is that rights granted same-sex couples and senior domestic partners will be taken away." WAIT! When did we ever approve another version of R-71? If R-71 is being voted on to give them rights then they would have had to not have rights, right? It's to bad that more people didn't understand what the Bible really says, and then we wouldn't have to vote on this. Either because there wouldn't be gays or because people would actually treat all people with respect no matter who they are.
It's to bad that the Wenatchee World is suggesting a vote against this initiative. From what I've read about I-1033 it seems like a good idea. Yeah it will limit the amount of money that state and local governments have to spend. I'm a college student and I know what it's like to have a very tight budget. I work hard as a CNA and go to college almost full time. I've got a very strict budget. I don't have a lot of money for extra things other than essentials. I think the government could do a better job in modeling this. I may make enemies with this, but our government needs to cut aid! Wenatchee Valley College costs around $1000 per quarter for 10-15 credits plus books. When filling out the FAFSA people can get all of this covered! Umm...wait. $1,000? Is that really hard to pay? Yeah it's not pleasant to play, but that's not bad. Medicaid is another program full of errors and problems. Our healthcare system is expensive largely because of all the problems with getting paid or getting sued. If people were responsible with their bills and laws were put in place to keep the healthcare providers resposible, yet also protect from the constant use of bogus lawsuits then there would be a large decrease in healthcare costs! Also if we wanted to cut more out of the budgets we should cut out much of the nuisance policing of codes. We the people have allowed our governments to tell us that we can't park more than a few cars on our properties or log so much of our timber. Seriously! Those are only a few of the ridiculous rules and regulations that tax dollars are wasted on. I know that we are in hard times. It's hard to get a job and earn as much money as before. I'm not stupid. My family has been affected as much or more than many, but our government can cut expendictures. Many of the expenditures are on things that our neighbors used to help us with. Back in the day if someone was having a hard time neighbors would help until they were back on their feet and would expect the same from them if they had it happen to them. We've lost community and now expect the government to provide much of that. Our government has not shown itself very responsible with large amounts of money. The scare tactics of moeny being taken from infrastructure and schooling is not needed. Those are part of the essential lists. Yes, there are probably cuts that could be made even there, but those are very essential to our living in a good and safe environment. Our economy has gone into a recession, and now we can see that the events center was a bad decision because of all the costs to the taxpayers. We need more common sense people in our government who are willing to look after the taxpayers. I was happy to see Doug Miller again standing up for us when he talked about his focus as a member of our city counsel. If only more people remembered how the money got into their hands and used it more wisely.
