I misspoke on one of my posts; however, I did not formulate an argument based on income tax alone. I spoke of paying taxes, which includes more than income tax.

I'm not sure what you are talking about specifically, but lower income brackets do pay income taxes. Many of them may get everything they paid back in the form of a return, but most do pay in. The government gets to enjoy that money interest free for the year before the taxpayer gets their return. Try asking for a year long interest-free bank loan. You'll get laughed out the door.
