After months of debate, a new dress code at Eastmont

How about less debate over uniforms, which unless the culture starts at the beginning is not the smartest way to impliment responsibility and "change" in behavior. How about letting the kids learn responsibility? I went to Eastmont High School, graduated in 2000, and guess what my dress never diminished my ability to be a productive adult. I wore baggy pants, and I wore baggy shirts and I'm female. People wearing gang affiliated clothing didn't phase me or affect my education. How about we concern ourselves with their performance, their grades and bettering our school's performance in academics? Seven months to figure out what we want to enlist for standards on dress code? How about instilling enforcement and standards that staff have to meet. The students aren't going to be professional because the school dictates that's what the working world is, they are going to be professional when they want that job. Professionalism can't be taught in school, it is taught through experience. Another thing is, girls who dress "sleazy" are allowed to by their parents, and it won't stop just because they are in school. My parents would have beat me if I dressed how they do, so why lay that on the school's shoulders? Report to the parents if its such a problem. School is for teaching math, english, and history, leave the parenting to the parents.

Brewster’s guest workers: The wave of the future?

You know in the end. I think people need to realize. A job is a job. Take what you get and work toward getting what you want. If that means the wife and kids are in one city and you are in another providing. Then so be it. People need to remember how hard it used to be. You can't blame Gebber for hiring from that program. You can't blame the people using that program to get a job either. If Americans want to reclaim their country, than man up and do it. We forget our roots as Americans and have turned into really petty people who are too lazy anymore. "Oh, the work is too hard and the pay is too little." Suck it up buttercup, at least you got money to feed your family.

School board talks Make Your Day tonight

When this was instituted in East Wenatchee, I was at the then Jr. High School (you know the one that doesn't look like a prison) It was the worst program ever instituted for behavioral management. We had that program for two years and thank god we didn't have it in high school. Make Your Day, really was Ruin Your Classmates Day. It's just a program that really takes time away from the learning, because you had to take time out of class to "rank" yourself. The process of becoming an adult through responsibility and accountability can't be shown through numbers and a hand holding program. The school district needs to man up and just teach. No program can do that for them.

Shackles too much, pregnant inmate says

I think this woman deserves shackles. She didn't give her victim the option for life or death or to accomodate her victim during her pregnancy. A wheelchair would be the common sense thing, but you know dang well they didn't "think" of it because now why in the world would people like her "think" of the common sense answer to a problem.

Safety Valve: Letters from readers

Makai Momma, let me put this in a manner that you might understand. Mitchell Williams, my other brother who would like to remain unnamed due to his activity still with in the association and myself were players and one of us even a ref. You are half right we have no say in what's being done (we can not speak at a Board meeting, if we can please give us the time and location so that we may address more than this issue. I'd love to attend, but alas the times and places are not posted publicly.) So you are telling me that my brother is a coward for speaking out in a public arena... where the city is involved and not just the Wenatchee Amateur Hockey Association is involved... is wrong. No board meeting will fix the general concern of expansion. Him not going to the board over an issue that as you say is resolved by votes, then no point in arguing with a one sided argument correct?
If you are hurt over his terms of the new name, I stand by my brother and have to say attaching the Wenatchee Amateur Hockey Association to a franchise is not in the spirit of the league. It is attaching a fun, casual environment with a competitive franchise. The Wenatchee Blades were an icon since the starting of the league in the 50's. The parents and coaches may have voted, but is that the best option that was available? Because someone has opinion and voices it where they wish is not cowardly it actually takes a lot of courage to speak up from a crowd of silence. Just like you voice your opinions, he is allowed to voice his. So, show some respect to a fellow human who is allowed to voice their opions just as yourself and either agree or disagree. But calling someone cowardly behind a pen name, without revealing your real name could be seen as the same level. (If that is your real name, then my apologies)
I agree with Mark Lee. I've played with his sons in hockey. You need to be thankful for the past's hard work for what you have now and the name change diminishes a long legacy of teams and memories that were there. Sure you are going to create new ones, but not in the same spirit and under the hard to keep standards of a minor league team.
Further more, his facts are not off. We played, been there done that and put the same time and money as other Rep team families have. IF his facts are off, display them. Do your homework and show us our fault. Your responses have been below par from what I would expect of a parent in the Wenatchee Amateur Hockey Association.
I can remember every player who has ever put in their volunteer time, including myself with the IP program, the referee program and the concession stands.
Do I seem harsh? Probably, but then again blood is thicker than frozen water.
