Oh, come on Tim. Take some personal responsibility for your own actions.
You really think its the nanny-paper's job to keep you from getting out of control?

Hi Tim, generally I support your Christian efforts, that said we will rarely convert those who don't have an open mind, like most atheists on this and other boards. I have found that all too often, as we "debate" our points of view, contention begins and when it does, all good feelings that we should have about religion evaporate. (learned from debating my views on other Christian web sites) But I will say I believe God and Christ and the HG are separate beings, I believe scripture supports this position much better than the position taken by the council at Nicea in ad 325. Not knowing you, I don't know the positions you take on the various doctrinal issues in Christianity. I have debated the place of the soul after death, salvation by faith "alone" and I have debated the notion of the infalibility of the Bible. These are typical positions taken by many in the Christian community. One thing I can say, I have been enlightened by how varied Christians are in their beliefs, it's not nearly as cut and dried as I once believed. I am willing to discuss these issues if you want a friendly discussion about religion, and can leave as friends.

I'm curious and I don't understand what you mean by, "I trust the Word because I trust the one who said it" could you please elaborate? From what I understand, the bible proclaims itself to be the word of God...this seems circular to me.

jlharris0419 (Jess) says...

Hey, thanks for your reply. Honestly, your answer in no way convinces me that the bible is the Word of God. But, I can appreciate your personal experience and how that is sufficient evidence for you. I can't argue with that.
I have just heard so often from many Christians that I should believe in the bible because it is the Word of God and a holy book. But then their only evidence for their belief in the bible as the Word of God is contained in the bible itself.
I have experience anything that would lead me to believe in a God and I've never understood how or why some people could expect me to take the just bible as sufficient evidence.
Again, thanks. Faith and religeon boggle my mind and I am always interested in how it works for different people.

Left you a note on the blog - what can we do for you. After re-reading it, it comes across a little more confrontational than intended. Perhaps that is a reflection of arguing to a brick wall - no offense. I think JLHarris' comment below is a good one for most Christians to take to heart.

I used to think, in reading your posts, that you were just passionate about your beliefs and sincerely wanted to try to "save" others, whether they wanted saving or not. I don't think that any more. You have an agenda, plain and simple, and you keep forcing it down our throats.
.
You think homosexuals are ruining our society, that they're immoral, that tolerance of them is disgusting, etc. We get it.
.
If you want us to take you seriously on here, you have to stop forcing your agenda into threads that have nothing to do with it. Your current thread on the gay marriage in D.C. is appropriate, trying to make the rape of a minor by an adult woman about gays is extremely inappropriate, disgusts ME, and honestly makes me just simply dismiss absolutely everything you say. And based on the "troll" comment, I'm not the only one.
.
If you really want to try to change minds, try reining yourself in. Keep the discussion of homosexuals limited to threads that are actually about homosexuals. I'm not trying to be rude here, I'm simply saying that you're turning people OFF to what you're trying to say, and I don't think that's your intent.
.
Your posts have gotten so offensive to me that if I see that you're posting, I won't even read the comments. I was initially interested in the thread on the gay marriage in D.C., until you started posting. I've ignored it since.
.
How are you going to get your message across when all you do is make people not even want to read the comments?
.
Oh, and by the way, remember that photo on the gay couple at the Windmill that got you all hot and bothered, that had you convinced it was an agenda by the paper to force homosexuality down our throats? You were wrong.
.
I met the photographer at an event recently, and I asked her about that photo. You know what she told me? They went to the restaurant to take a photo of that particular booth, because that booth is known for its view. That was the couple that happened to be in the booth at the time. They would have taken the photo no matter who had been in the booth.
.
It had nothing whatsoever to do with an agenda.
.
There, I've said my piece in an attempt to maintain civility on these boards. It would be nice to be able to have reasoned debates and discussions on here, but if you continue with your troll-like behavior, I'll just stop reading your comments, period.

How on earth is the boy not being seen as a victim?? I see plenty of posts on there of people who are agreeing that he is a victim. And I've already posted why I think that society doesn't get quite as outraged with a young boy with a woman as they would with a minor with a man, so I'm not going to continue reiterating that. All I'm asking is that you keep your comments on the topic at hand, and quit trying to force your "truth" down our throats when it's not relevant to the discussion.

Thank you for your reply. It is a non-defensive, respectful response, and while it's pretty clear we're never going to see eye to eye, I can see where you're coming from and respect our differences. I'm honestly not resentful of you. I LIKE having many different viewpoints and opinions in my sphere, it keeps things interesting, and always keeps me thinking and evaluating. I just like it to be not so contentious, that's all.
.
I still think, for the sake of civility, that I won't respond to what you say on stories any longer. I've said my piece, and continuing would be rude.
.
God bless.

Tim,

I came accross this article and it reminded me of our discussions. You might find this Christian's approach to evangelizing interesting. I know I would definitely endorse it as it addresses my primary complaints abou the practice.

Tim,
I'm hoping you didn't feel personally attacked by me in the recently shut down thread. Though I was both querying and challenging you, I hope I wasn't doing so in a manner that seemed hostile to you. That there seems to be gulf between us in our understanding of the world I don't think it means there can't be decent though vigorous discussion of the issues. Thanks again for your responses to my comments and inquiries.

hey Tim - I don't always agree with you, but I thought I would add a suggestion. Take it or leave it , but you keep getting the same 4 people riled up and I am not sure your Bible quotes are reaching those that could really benefit your passion. Since you are very knowledgable about religion why don't you minister to those that could use brightness of "HIS" word - the homeless, the less fortunate, the abused. Just a thought.

Tim, I don't always agree with what you offer, however your assessment of Jim that I read from a wall post you wrote once was right on. I don't even remember where I read it, but these last few days are a good example. Jim wanting to set up a blog site intended for you because of continual "hijacked" posts, when this is what he does, is such a hypocrite. He likes to follow the leader. I think he is a lonely old fellow who has become a bully on here as long as he has his "gang". I am actually sorry you were the fall out guy. The real JB is not so nice.

It is so sad tim when the people of this valley as well as the entire nation close their eyes to the moral breakdown in socitiy as a whole. when bars allow men to use the womans bathrooms because they are wearing womans clothes it is too discusting! what about the true females? are not their rights violated by haveing a man in drag useing the same bathroom as they? I agree with you tim on a lot but sadly most have just closed theeir eyes to the problems with the decay of socitety today
