NESPELEM — A map of the 1.4 million-acre Colville Indian Reservation littered with red and yellow markers hangs on a wall at the Colville Tribal Police Department. The markers show dozens of fatal and near-fatal crashes that occurred over a four-or five-year period. For years, serious vehicle accidents have plagued members of the Confederated Tribe of the Colville Reservation.
