GIRLS (11-1, 17-4) Tuesday (today), Walla Walla (10-4, 14-7) here. In this second round district game, the Panthers and the Blue Devils will be meeting for the 75th time since they first met in 1975-76. In that initial year of the Big Nine both Wenatchee and Walla Walla tied with Othello the league title. Since then WWHS has done will in their series with WHS, posting a 50-24 record...and they have won three in a row and seven of the past eight. Walla Walla tied for second in the Columbia Division and is the second seed from that division. A win and Ron Stone will even his record with the Blue Devils at 9-9.

Streaks. The gals have won 10 straight games. In school history this is second only to a 13-game string in the second year of the program between the 1973-74 and 1974-75 seasons. The 10 in a row is the longest streak since the current started in 1975-76. Old record was eight in 1983. Wenatchee ended the season with nine consecutive league wins…a new school record for conference games. Old record was seven in 1995-96/1996-97. Currently WHS has been victorious in seven straight at home…this is tied for fourth best in home winning strings. The record is 11 in 1990-91/1991-92.

What? Where are the Panthers? This week among 4A schools the Seattle Times poll has 28 teams listed between their top 10 and “others to watch”...and no Wenatchee. From this side of the mountains they have Chiawana, Central Valley, Gonzaga, Lewis & Clark, Mead, Richland and Walla Walla…and no Wenatchee.

BOYS (7-5, 7-14) Tuesday (today), Eisenhower (10-4, 15-6) here. This is a lose and the season is over game. It’s Wenatchee hosting Eisenhower in a second round loser’s bracket contest. These two teams met before this season, and in Wenatchee. On December 8 the Cadets won 57-45. The most recent three games between EHS and WHS have all gone to the Yakima school. Overall the Cadets lead the series 72-33. In the Wenatchee gym the home team is up 24-23. Coach Brett McGinnis is 5-10 in games with Eisenhower.

Ouch. Richland’s 99-57 victory over Wenatchee Saturday put some marks in a couple of dubious lists. The 99 points ties for the seventh most ever scored against the Panthers. The record is 109 by Pasco in 1979. The 42-point loss ties for ninth on the list of largest losing margins by the Purple & Gold. The record is 54 by Walla Walla in 1990.
