GIRLS BASKETBALL (2-0, 5-3)
Wednesday, Snohomish (2-3, 4-4) home.
Panthers vs. Panthers. The Purple & Gold eastern version vs. the Red & White western variety. Like Lake Stevens, this will also be the first game Wenatchee has ever had with Snohomish. Both the Vikings and Panthers are members of the 6-team WesCo North League along with Arlington, Marysville, Monroe and Stanwood.
Tuesday, Lake Stevens (5-0, 7-0) here.
Undefeated Lake Stevens will be the Panthers opponent Thursday. The 7-0 Vikings are ranked No. 3 in the state by the Seattle Times and have been winning their games by an average of 18.9 points. This will be the first meeting between WHS and LSHS.
BOYS BASKETBALL (1-1, 3-5)
Tuesday, Puyallup (2-4, 3-5) home.
Purple & Gold vs. Purple & Gold. A year ago in the WHS gym Wenatchee lost a 49-47 squeaker to Puyallup in the first ever meeting of the two schools on the old maple. After starting 1-5 the Vikings have won their last two games.
Wednesday, Auburn (3-4, 4-5) home.
The Panthers and Trojans go back nearly 87 years. The first win Wenatchee High ever had at state was over Auburn. On March 12, 1925 the local quintet lost their first game at state to Whatcom 20-15 and then came back later that same day and topped the Trojans 29-24. (In those long ago days the state tourney at the University of Washington Pavilion was a three-day event. Davenport eliminated WHS the next day 24-12). Wenatchee and Auburn split a home-and-home series in the mid-seventies, and this will be the third year in a row AHS has been to the Apple Capital…the visitors winning the last two and now lead the series 3-2.
Boys Having Grand Time
Tonight’s game is the 1,000th home game in school history. In 102 seasons, beginning with a 32-16 win over Cashmere January 11, 1912, the Panthers have played 999 games in Wenatchee. They have accumulated 631 victories and 368 defeats. The longest home winning streak is 29 (1931-32 through 1934-35), and longest losing streak 13 (1988-99 through 1999-2000).
