FOOTBALL (2-2, 4-2)
Friday, Lake City, ID (1-1, 3-3) home.

Last fall the Panthers ventured to Coeur d’Alene and got upended by the Timberwolves 46-18.

In 104 years of Panther football, this will be the 13th time a Wenatchee team has competed against a school from beyond the borders of the Evergreen State. WHS is 9-3 in those encounters. They are 5-2 against Idaho (Lewiston 2-0, Coeur d’Alene 3-1, Lake City 0-1), 1-0 against Oregon (Parkrose 1-0-), 0-1 against Illinois (Oak Park 0-1) and 3-0 against British Columbia (Vancouver College 2-0, North Surrey 1-0).

Note. Lake City played a game in the Kibbie Dome in Moscow a month ago when they “hosted” Rio Linda from the city of the same name in California. The visitors from the Golden State win 20-19.

Did you know?
Steve Robbins, a 1974 Wenatchee Hi grad, is among the state leaders in three field goal lists.
1) As a senior in 1973 he booted 14 3-pointers. At the time that was the most in the state and remained so for 13 years. Now the additional kickers have booted 14. Last fall a kicker from Burlington moved into first place with 15.
2) With 21 field goals during his 3-years in high school, Robbins is fourth on the career list. At the time that was tops in the state. It was topped in 1989, 2007 and 2009 (the leader now has 38).

3) The former Panther once nailed four field goals in a game in 1973. That ties Robbins with nine others for second. In 1969 Joe Danelo for Gonzaga put five through the uprights.

League Standings: Chiawana 4-0, 6-0; Davis 3-1, 5-1, Eisenhower 2-1, 5-1; Wenatchee 2-2, 4-2; Richland 1-2, 4-2; Walla Walla 0-3, 0-5; Moses Lake 0-3, 0-6.

Last week’s game with Richland was the 60th homecoming game in WHS history. During those seasons the Panthers a favorable record of 41-19, although they have dropped their last two.

An idea that might be considered for future homecoming games is to not schedule the Bombers. Oh it was fine the first three games when WHS won two of them, but since it hasn’t been pretty. Between 1983 and last Friday Richland has foiled the home forces six straight times. And these games aren’t close, like a total score 194 to 35…for an average score of 32-6. Two have been shutouts. And with nine games RHS has been the homecoming foe more than anybody.

GIRLS SOCCER (3-5, 3-8-1)
Tuesday, Eisenhower (1-6) away.
This will be the 37th match since 1986. The schools have played either once or twice every year.
With a 1-0 victory at home last month the Panthers stopped a Cadet 7-game win streak in the series.
And this series is close. EHS leads but only 19-17-1 and 9-8-1 in Yakima.
The Panthers have shutout the Cadets eight times. WHS has been held goalless 11 times.
Wenatchee’s longest win streak is 11, likewise for Eisenhower.
Note. After WHS won 11 straight from 1989 to 1996, EHS turned the tables and did the same from 1996 to 2005.

Saturday, Walla Walla (1-5) home.
Like Eisenhower, this will be the 37th match and they’ve played the Blue Devils at least once a year since 1987.
With a 3-2 win at Walla Walla two weeks ago the Panthers have won six in a row from WWHS.
Overall the Purple & Gold have dominated the series, leading 31-5-1 and 15-3 at home.
The Panthers have shutout the Blue Devils 14 times. WHS has been held scoreless four times.
Wenatchee’s longest win streak 20. Walla Walla’s longest win streak two.

League Standings: Moses Lake 6-1, Richland 6-1, Davis 5-2, Wenatchee 3-4, Chiawana 2-5, Walla Walla 1-5, Eisenhower 1-6

VOLLEYBALL (8-2, 12-6)
Thursday, Chiawana (9-0) home.
Here come the Riverhawks…the league leader, number five in the state volleyball coaches association poll and number six in the Seattle Times poll.
When the Panthers faced Chiawana last month in Pasco the host team won 3-2, but barely. The scores were possibly the closest in Wenatchee history. Chiawana won the first set by two, then it was Wenatchee by six, Wenatchee again by two, Chiawana by two and finally Chiawana by two. WHS actually won two more games than CHS.
Wenatchee is 3- 1 against the Riverhawks and 1-0 at home.

Saturday, Wenatchee Invitational Tournament, home.

League Standings: Chiawana 9-0, Richland 8-1, Wenatchee 8-2, Walla Walla 3-6, Moses Lake 2-6, Eisenhower 1-8, Davis 0-8.
