One erratic

Blog: Culture Check

The best erratics — those boulders repositioned by glaciers from waaaaay over there to right here — rest both on the landscape and in our minds. Something about their dark, isolated shapes weigh on our psyches ... OR, they're just big, cool rocks that are fun to look at.

This one pokes up at dusk from a golden wheatscape east of Mansfield.

Thanks, Mike, I learned a new word today! I can't believe I didn't know those lone boulders placed by glaciers were called erratics! And yes, your image is beautiful.

Another beautiful pic, Mike. When I read your title, then clicked on it, and saw the top of the pic was a wheat field, I thought the picture was going to be of a drunk guy driving a combine...

Ha! That's pretty funny, J Bone. Thanks to everyone for their comments. Lurker, at the moment there's no easy way to get prints of my photos (although a lot of online options exist). When I get a system set up, I'll certainly let you know. I appreciate you asking.

I've heard of erratic driving but where do they put the steering on those things?

Can't you just hear the operator of one of those big machines in the field at planting or harvest time? "That blankety-blank rock is always in the way! We need to blast it out of there."
