What a grand adventure!

Blog: Director's Desk

Well, the final task of returning costumes to their appropriate places at three theaters (Mission Creek, Music Theatre of Wenatchee, and Wenatchee High School) is done. Being able to take care of these tasks helps with the closure that a director needs after a show. Carefully putting the costumes away...touching the fabrics, mending loose buttons, carefully hanging them....you get to think of the characters that they were for and the actors who wore them. Just another way for a director to walk down memory lane and relive the journey that is now past.

I find that I get very attached to the story, the cast and the crew whenever I direct. One of our cast members will be moving to the west side of the mountains soon, so we will all be getting together to watch the video of the play and hang out as a team one more time. That should be a lot of fun.

I also just this week finished reading all of the Sherlock Holmes stories that Conan-Doyle wrote. It took me quite a long time (I've been reading them since January) and his short stories and novels are forever intertwined with the experience of directing this play. I feel a little like I'm losing some good friends as I let the tales go and move on to other things.

But who knows? There are other Sherlock Holmes plays and I may be inspired to write one myself. It's a wonderful world that Arthur created. I wouldn't mind stepping back onto those cobbled streets of Edwardian London to meet up once again with the great detective and the good doctor.

I want to thank you, the readers of this blog, for joining in the journey! I hope you've found it an interesting, thought-provoking, and just-plain-fun read.

Until the next play, I remain, very sincerely yours...
