Entiat 6th grade Math Team to State after taking 1st Place!

The Entiat 6th grade Math is Cool team took 1st place in the Math is Cool team competition at Orchard Middle School on February 5th, 2010. The competition featured a record number of 6th grade teams from the Wenatchee Region. The 1st place Finish propelled the team to the State Tournament that will be held in Moses Lake on May 22, 2010. This will be the team's second state appearance in three years, but the first time taking 1st place. The team consists of Benjamin Southard, Ulises Pina, Edwin Medina, Austin Kiser and Trang Tran. When they were in fourth grade the team finished fourth in the Regional Competition and fourth in the State Competition. Since that time the team has been joined by Ulises Pina, and Trang Tran making the 1st place finish possible.

In the individual competition Benjamin Southard took 2nd place. He has taken 1st or 2nd for three consecutive years in the Regional Competition. This will be his third consecutive state appearance in the individual competition. He finished in a 4th place tie in fourth grade and in 6th place in the fifth grade at State. We will see what this year brings. Good luck Boys!

This is an outstanding academic achievement for these students. Please congratulate these students and encourage all students to strive for the Academic Excellence. Math really can be "Cool".
