Dentist opens new practice

Sit back, relax and enjoy what must be one of the best views from a dental chair on American soil. The wide Columbia River, snow-capped Cascade peaks, little curved spit sink that’s hardly majestic but nicely functional.

Dr. Andrew P. Johnson, DMD, (in photo) now three months into his new East Wenatchee practice, said this past week that the gorgeous view helps soothe patients nervous about having work done on their teeth. Not that they have much to worry about.

“I try to do everything for a patient that I’d hope my dentist would do for me,” said Johnson. “We’re gentle, down to earth and we take a lot of extra steps to make sure the patient is comfortable and pain free.”

Johnson, 36, was born and raised in Missouri, attended college in Utah and then dental school in Kentucky. He started college studying chemical engineering, shifted to molecular biology, shifted again to physical therapy and then into dentistry. “I discovered I’d rather work with people than do research in a windowless office,” he said.

Seven years ago, he began his career in dentistry in Post Falls, Idaho, and then accepted jobs in the Tri-Cities, Phoenix and Prescott, Ariz., before moving to East Wenatchee.

Johnson located here because he and wife Amy love the eastern Washington weather and — oh yeah, here’s the real reason — Amy grew up in Moses Lake and her parents still live there. In May, Johnson bought the practice of Dr. Robert Smith, who now works part-time at various offices around the Wenatchee Valley.

With a staff of five, Johnson serves scores of patients, including lots of kids and seniors. “I like to see a variety of people with a variety of dental questions,” said Johnson. “It keeps me sharp and makes work more interesting.”

Details: Dr. Andrew P. Johnson, DMD, 101 11th St. NE, East Wenatchee. Phone: 884-7137.

My family and I were patients of Dr. Johnson's in Arizona. I can attest to how gentle and thorough he is. For the first time in decades, I was able to get dental work done without gas. My 6 year old was able to sit through fillings without discomfort. Dr. Johnson is especially great at giving shots! That's usually the worst part, but he makes it a breeze. My family will definitely miss him, but we wish him all the best in Wenatchee!

Dr. Johnson was my dentist in Arizona. He's awesome! He is thorough and explains everything in easy to understand terms, so when I left his office I knew exactly what was going on with my teeth. And he's very gentle -- seriously, I never had pain from his work. I highly recommend him.
