India House to spice up local dining scene

Craving some chicken tikka masala or other Indian delicacies? Well, prepare your palate — a new restaurant specializing in the cuisine of North India is on its way.
India House, owned by Indian chef D.D. Dhwan of Lacey, should be open by the first week of March in the space vacated nearly two years ago by Smokeblossom in downtown Wenatchee. Remodeling of the site is set to begin soon.
“I was traveling recently through Wenatchee and couldn’t find an Indian restaurant,” said Dhwan, noting the closest serving of chicken masala was likely in Yakima. “And I thought, ‘Well, here’s an opportunity.”
The Smokeblossom space with its “elegant informality” was available, she added. “It will suit our family-style way of serving — a buffet at lunch, more complete entrees for dinner.”
The menu, still under construction, will feature many of North India’s traditional meats and sauces, but also specialize in vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes, said Dhwan. “We’re trying for fresh and organic in nearly everything we’ll make.”
For the most part, North India food is not overly spicy and even borders on mild, she added. “In the end, it’s up to the customer just how spicy a dish will be.”
Dhwan, a chef for the last decade in restaurants around Puget Sound and across the country, said a hallmark of India House will be its variety and flexibility. “We’ll be able to accommodate different diets and taste preferences,” she said. “And it will all taste good.”
Details: India House, 105 S. Wenatchee Ave. Set to open in early March.

India House to spice up local dining scene
This makes me the happiest girl ever!!! I am from the west side and Indian food/restaurants are probably one of the things I miss the most! I was just having a conversation with my co-workers a couple weeks ago about needing an Indian restaurant in town and now we are getting one!!! I think I may be their #1 customer once they open!!!
