Albums on track for 2010
Blog: Give It a Spin
January 4, 2010
Now that 2010 has begun, it's time to stop looking back and start looking ahead. Several announcements have been made about albums making an appearance this year, and here I highlight my most anticipated so far.
1. Archie Powell & the Exports
You've heard their free five-song EP, and can't wait to hear more of that throwbacky pop. Well, you won't have to wait much longer. The foursome has nearly wrapped up production of its debut full-length release, full of upbeat music to please the masses. Release date not yet determined.
2. Eels
For the past couple of months, Mark Everett has been leaking tunes from his upcoming release, "End Times." Fresh on the heels of 2009's "Hombre Lobo," this year's album seems a bit more somber, a bit less dynamic, but just as beautiful. Release is currently set for Jan. 19.
3. The Morning Benders
Ever since the band's 2007 debut, I've been excitedly hanging on for its next project. "Big Echo" comes out March 9, accompanied by a nationwide tour (making a stop at Seattle's Crocodile April 2).
4. OK Go
After five years of holding our breath, the glam-pop band finally gives us its third album. One theory about why planetary morale has dampened over the last few years is because OK Go's peppy character was absent from our lives. If that's true, then expect 2010 to bustle because the scheduled release for "Of the Blue Colour of the Sky" is Jan. 12.
5. Spoon
The indie rock outfit shovels in another helping of its delightful rhythms to quell everyone's appetites. Expect to see "Transference" on shelves Jan. 19.
6. Cake
Speaking of appetites, I've been hungry for more Cake for quite some time now. The band's last album of new material came out in 2004, so this latest offering is long overdue. Details are thin at this time, and a release date is not yet known.
7. Ludacris
With good humor and a projected lack of humility, hip-hop goofball Ludacris lives up to his name with his 2010 delivery, "Ludaversal." No specific date has been set.
8. Soundgarden
I won't actually speculate on whether or not the recently reunited rock group is actually releasing a new album this year, as nothing's yet been confirmed about one, but I sure will hope. Chris Cornell's solo career has left much to be desired, so a return to Soundgarden is something to be excited about.
Other rumored releases for 2010: Outkast; The Black Keys; Social Distortion; Nine Inch Nails; Radiohead

Great, Scott, I didn't know about a lot of these releases. Definitely some good stuff to look forward to. I am especially interested about a new one from The National. :)
