The Humans are Dead

Blog: Give It a Spin

One thing you may not know about me is that I am a robot. The name given to me by my manufacturer is Abbytron. However, my programmer has fittingly assigned me the title of Gobot (this has no relation to the 1980s toys, though I can understand why some might make that mistake). We robots are quite thankful to the musicians and bands who pay tribute to our race, including Queen, Rush, Styx and the wonderful Alan Parsons who is secretly also a robot (oh come on, like it was really any big secret).

The following mix contains a full list of songs honoring robots, made specifically for human enjoyment ("Love Machine" intentionally excluded, as it was not made for anyone's enjoyment). Maybe it will help you understand that we aren't much different, you and I. Except it's true we don't know how to love. And we will gently destroy you all someday.

When I saw Kraftwerk in 1998 they had what was called "The Robot Ballet" in robotic versions of the band performed The Robots.

Don't know if it qualifies, but Gort is on the LP cover of Ringo's "Goodnight Vienna". Ringo is dressed up as a poor man's Klaatu.

BTW, I wonder if all these robots got here courtesy of Sun Ra's "Rocket Number 9"?

In reference to "Blunts and Robots", not too many people know that Peter Hook was the magnificent bassist from Joy Division / NewOrder. Definitely worth listening to.
