Ta-daaaa!

Blog: Living Images

Ulvaldo Herrera has been making perfumes in his wife's store in Wenatchee for over a year, converting a tiny dressing room into his shop.

When I first saw where he worked, I joined him inside the room with a super-wide angle lens and held it down near his desk to photograph him from the corner of his room.

The picture came out better than I expected with pretty nice lighting and the focus tack sharp.

Ulvaldo's wife, Laura, grabbed a step stool and I shot some images from above the room to show the small quarters he works in.

But really, the best moment came after he was finished bottling the scent. I had moved to the floor and was waiting for him to exit his room, thinking a photograph of him exiting, having to push the curtain away, would show the size of the room the best. I was shocked, and happy, when he did just that but with a yell, "Ta-daaaa!" with his finished creation in his hands. After I found out that he always does this, and wasn't playing it up for my camera, I knew I had the picture for the newspaper.
