Covering Venom's first game

I got to cover the first game of the Wenatchee Valley Venom last night. I looked forward to photographing something new - arena football.
Catching the first touchdown was my first challenge and thankfully I had a good view when Ronnie Simpson came across the goal line. But when he lowered his head, I think he got smashed and was in pain right after scoring.

When he walked off the field with help later, he was met by local quarterback reserve Dave Mott who was on the inactive roster for this game.

The large crowd on hand was pretty vocal and active, especially when a game ball would be kicked or thrown in their direction - they do get to keep them.

And a bunch of penalties were called, stalling the action. Some infractions were made right in front of the refs.

But in the midst of all the activity surrounding the game, there was actually some pretty good football on the small field.

Can't beat it for shooting photographs. Brightly lit stadium, comfortable temperature, don't have to shoot through photo muddying plastic-glass like in hockey. I think I'm going to like making pictures of these games.
