Photographing gang violence

The family of the two boys who perished in a fire earlier this month that police are saying was a gang related arson allowed me to photograph the funeral yesterday from the back of the church. I tried to capture the sorrow of the people there that was a result of such a senseless act.

The family followed the boys' caskets out of the church.

This was sad enough but the topper was the call I got about a gang shooting in Malaga last night. I first thought that it was going to be a retaliation shooting for the fire but I arrived to find out it was at a memorial gathering for the boys. The first photographs included the mother and then her and her surviving son whom I had photographed at the funeral.

Photographing gang violence
Does this mother want justice for her sons, the proper, legal way? Should this family truely care and want to stop the violence, I see no other way. Otherwise, please take it from whence it came.
My heart hurts as a mother and is saddened for Wenatchee.
