All over the place

I drove to Omak last Friday for a story about a family who operate a boarding kennel for animals at their rural home. It was a nice story with home schooled children working around the place that was decorated in a island beach theme. I had a difficult time though as they were scattered about working on their chores. I couldn't photograph a time when they were in the same area - at least I couldn't do it successfully. Here's the one time I was in the room with a majority of the kids.
It doesn't work - no animals and one of the children is looking right at me.
An attempt at getting at least two of them in one photograph didn't look to good either.
So I went searching for individuals and decided to get a family photograph to tie them all in later on.
I photographed Jenna cleaning the glass door to one of the themed kennels to tell the story of how the family decorated their business.
Then went outside to find John walking dogs but first came across the family cat walking back and forth in front of the dogs in their outdoor pen. I couldn't resist the opportunity.
I did find John eventually and just as he was returning one of the animals to its pen. It was pretty anxious to get back for a treat.
And I finished off my time there with a family portrait. I'm pretty bad at setting up portraits and this was no exception. I was trying to tie in the thatched roof with their photograph and include some pets in it but it's pretty much a failure other than getting everyone's face in the picture.
I usually don't have to resort to the group portrait but it's something I still need to work on for these specific occasions.
