Blue Moon Tonight

Blog: Living Well

Here's a song for this last night of the year, and for the second full moon in the month of December:

Nancy Griffith, a country/folk singer from Texas and one of our favorites, recorded a song fitting for tonight's appearance of a blue moon.

Nanci Griffith has recorded a number of albums and I like all her songs. My favorite is Gulf Coast Highway. This was performed live in 1988, when Nanci was pretty young, as you can see.

Emmy Lou Harris has a good version of this, also.

But tonight you'll find us here at home, with a special end-of-the-year dinner (lamb) and a very nice Washington wine, watching the new year come in via TV from New York (what? You think I stay up til it's midnight here?) We'll be listening to Once in a Very Blue Moon. and looking up at the full moon lighting up the sky--if we can see it for the clouds.

Hi Joanne -- thanks for reminding me that there's a blue moon tonight! Very cool. I even have a special blue moon cocktail I can make to celebrate. We're hunkering down tonight too and will have friends over for New Year's Day brunch. Happy New Year to you and Alex!

Hey, we miss seeing you. You'll have to tell me about the cocktail. I celebrated N.Y.'s with New York, at nine Pacific time, so I can go to bed. "early to bed and early to rise", you know. I'm stil waiting to get the "wealthy and wise" part.

Happy New Year

No moon at our home last night...only snow and cloudy skies...although, the moon-glow was visible behind the clouds.

Nice songs though; Happy New Year.
