I realize that the Big Three for me may not be the same for you and others, but I was brought up on these traditional holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Let's all be happy celebrating our choices and be glad that we can still do so.
This time of year brings many activities connected with the holidays. Gift shopping, meal planning, going to and giving parties--all are part of the holiday crunch.
Do you want to make your Christmas shopping easier this year, and have some fun at the same time? In previous posts I've mentioned the Leavenworth bookstore, A Book for All Seasons, as a source for some of the books I like on words and language Today I received their latest newsletter and spent considerable time checking out the books being offered for the upcoming season. I particularly enjoyed reading "The Declaration of Independents" and learning that ABFAS is IndieBound..
For whatever reason, the movie "You've Got Mail" came to mind when I was reading the newsletter this morning. A Book for All Seasons offers more than books: it offers several opportunities for entertainment. For one thing, how about dinner at Visconti's Restaurant Wednesday, November 18, 6:30 - 8:30 PM. Jess Walter, an award-winning, best-selling author will be speaking. He is a humorous and much sought-after speaker. The website gives full details. And...it isn't expensive, so you'll have more money left for buying books and other gifts.
Several other interesting-sounding events are on the calendar for the next couple of months. Who doesn't enjoy a Christmas Party--besides the Grinch, of course? The bookstore will hold its annual party Thursday December 3, 6:00 - 9:00 PM. And it's free!
But why am I telling you all this? There is too much else going on for me to mention it all here, so check it out for yourself. We'll see you there, I hope.
