On the Move
Blog: Living Well

You'd think a person could go out of town for a few weeks without missing out on much. Not true! While we were gone, our neighbor Ed Rutledge - local winemaker, artist, woodcarver and who knows what else - (he's very talented) moved the downtown tasting room! D'Vinery, at the west end of Leavenworth, was a charming place to visit and taste Ed's wines. However, he and the family didn't move it far: it's just next door to the former tasting room and has more room to display his artistic talents, an assortment of interesting books and other wine accoutrements and a broad array of palate-pleasing wines. The whites range from dry to off-dry to sweet, and the dry Gewurztraminer is olfactory heaven. Tables and chairs make it easy to sit and sip.
Moving tasting rooms seems to be catching, too. Around the first of April, Stemilt Creek Winery - now located on 9th Street - will be pouring its wines in its new location right next to d'Vinery at the west end of Front St.
With this move, the west end of Front St. will have three wine-tasting rooms, as Ryan Patrick Vineyards is down the street (or up, depending on how you look at it) at 636 Front St. And if you cross the street from Ryan Patrick and go down the hill, at 725 Front St. you'll find Swakane Winery's tasting room downstairs. Each winery is different, with options for tasting or buying by the glass or bottle, and with delightful wine-related books, jewelry, food items and T-shirts. Ryan Patrick's "Let's Get Naked" shirts are very popular, especially with bachelorette parties.
What's next? I don't know, but I'm sure more fun, wine-related activities are in store for us.

On the Move
Ed is a master craftsman, an artist in the truest sense of the word, and the new tasting room is just one more small proof of that fact. This is a beautiful room in which to sip equally beautiful wines. Oh, and nice pics...
