Good time Saturday, in spite of the clouds and chill. It warmed up from 63 to 68 as we drove to Wenatchee. Extravagant, I know: we were there Friday to do our weekly shopping, but we wanted to go to the Wine Thief, which was having a tasting that afternoon. After the success of the Friday afternoon event, owners Jenni and Paul McNeill decided to have a Saturday tasting from 1-4. After tasting the wines, we could see why it was so successful.

The white was a Rotie Cellars Viognier/Roussanne Rhone-style blend, and was very pleasing. Next was a Pinot Noir from Ron Ventimiglia of Chelan, who used to help produce wine at Big Pine in Manson. Several visitors were heard expressing their delight with its wonderful aroma and flavor, and smooth mouthfeel.

The Columbia Valley Glaze Cabernet Sauvignon was a hit, also; smooth but tannic, it will hold well for future drinking...an opinion shared by others there.

The Wine Thief is a welcome addition to the Chelan County wine scene, and we anticipate many more fun Friday and Saturdays there, exploring their wines and meeting fellow winos*. Right now, tastings are held Friday 3-8 and Saturday 1- 4. On Saturdays you are likely to meet Ben, a knowledgeable and personable assistant in the tasting area.

*wino: term for one who enjoys drinking wine and appreciating its varieties, differences, and origins. Isn't it interesting how definitions change with time?

Tracking Down the Wine Thief

This is the start of something fun for the area. Terrific wine selection not just of WA state and local wineries, but too of wines from other states...a $12.99 Oregon Pinot Noir for example, as well as wines from other countries. So, not only can you buy a Rhone styled wine from WA, you can also buy a Rhone wine, DUH, from the Rhone valley.
