A song for a foggy Sunday morning.....

Blog: Music For Old(er) Folks

It is music, and it is old(er). I wonder if anyone (besides my brother) remembers the children's TV show this old English folk tune was the theme for?

If you got it right, you get to sit in the rocking chair by the fireplace. What's your guess......

Assuming that the fine folks of Wenatchee grew up with access to the CBC..."Look up, way up." I saw the set in a display at CBC headquaters many years ago. Really quite small. There was also on display all of Rusty's musical insturments. Can't say I ever remember him playing a Flying V.

Be nice to my adopted home town or I'll start telling stories about you in front of the TV when Herkimer and Jingles came on.

The show in question also ran on some PBS (then NET) stations. If no one gets it, I'll cough up the answer Tuesday.

I've become obsessive about watching another children's show who's theme was a Lutherian hymm. Great claymation work. Still cannot believe the early 70's stereotype they used for the owner of a pet botique.

WE HAVE A WINNER! The show was The Friendly Giant, which ran on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and selected PBS stations from 1958 through 1985. Bob Homme was Friendly (even though he stood all of 5'6'') and his friends were Rusty the Rooster, Jerome the Giraffe and I don't want to think of how many kids in the show's 28 year run.

The childhood memories was why I first started watching Davey. Then I became facinated with the animation. It really is quite developed. Especially with Goliath and his expressions. In the later ones Davey is really quite a brat, which becomes the basis for the lessons. They also focus a lot on "racial diversity". But I still think the gay pet botique owner is more of a sterotype. Must have been watching too many Dragnet reruns.
