Weekend Funnies.....

Blog: Music For Old(er) Folks

Keeping in mind if you listened to "Annoying Music For Labor Day" on NPR yesterday you probably know what's coming, I thought we'd look at an appropriate song for the holiday
A couple of conditions, though. A quote from the Wenatchee World Saturday noted that "...The Wenatchee Valley Mall will be open regular hours..." on Monday. I put togeher a 40 year career in retail. When I started, shopping centers were NEVER open on holidays (or Sundays, or mid-week nights for that matter). Now a days you're hard pressed to find a day when they're closed. Thus, most retailers labor on Labor Day, so maybe a song like this...

...would be appropriate. Or not. It depends on your trade.
I also suffered through a birthday the other day. It does fall every so often on Labor Day, although not this year. I also won't tell you how old I am, but if you play this chestnut from The Crests 3 7/8 times, you'll figure it out.

Makes you wish you'd studied a little harder for the WASL, what?
So, we've establshed that Labor Day really isn't a holiday for a lot of people who labor, and that my birthday falls on Labor Day every so often. Where does that lead us? To Paul Anka.
Now there's no denying that Mr. Anka is a talented singer and a terrific songwriter. Alas, this was not one of his best, but it fits here. In honour of Labor Day I present.....

I'm just happy the clip runs only 2:06. Have a great holiday weekend.

The Anka is on our music at work. The first time a really listened to the lyrics as about 6 weeks ago and couldn't believe what I was hearing. As you already know, I was using this great piece of funk to celebrate work. It's just too bad that this Labour Day, more in our country cannot say the same.

You know Gord, neither of us are Canadian, eh?
But we're going to have to open up the old Muzak (tm) discussion someday soon. I heard this:

....on a forground music system today. Enough to make me go "Wild In The Streets".

The other day, I heard "I Can See for Miles" at Kroger and "Move on Up" (the full version) at Micheal's (a craft and hobby store). For those tuning in that aren't familiar, the latter is (opinion) Curtis at his best
