For the second year in row The Boss Martains made an appearance last Saturday at Mission Ridge as part of the Mountain Music Festival.
The four piece power pop rockers did two sets which included their popular songs "Hey, Hey, Yeah, Yeah" and "Mars Is For Martians" plus they threw in a few covers of Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" and a decent rendition of "Benny And The Jets".
Bassist Scott Mylene was all over the place, on the cabinet, on someone's shoulders. on the bar etc. and he had a unique approach in drinking from a tap. You had to be there.
It was a full house on the bar side. In the crowd were other local musicians as I spotted members of "The Wrek's", "Ghost Power" and "Not All There" to name a few.
By the end of the first set, a small crowd had gathered around the band, fun for them but being there is no stage the rest of us got to look at the back side of said small crowd catching the occasional glimpse of the band, however we could still hear them and the crowd was very responsive to their music.
The below video is of the band early in the first set before the crowd surrounded them. It's a bit dark as there's no lighting but it gives a feel of the band.
These guys always put on a good show and I hope that next year they'll do a three-peat and play the Music Fest once again. and hopefully some surfer music will be on their set list. How about it Evan?

It was a great show, and I was really impressed with their rendition of "Bennie and the Jets." When Scott jumped down behind the bar, the bartender hesitated just a moment before turning the tap on for him so he was just leaning back above the trough for a second while the dude was trying to decide if it was okay for him to feed a guy from the tap. That was pretty funny. I enjoy the band's music on record, but it's definitely a greater experience live. I mean, I guess that can be said for most music, but in this case, they really out-do themselves on stage. It's like they go from being a good band to a totally awesome band.

So it was you sitting next to me at the bar to my left. Thought it might have been but I wasn't sure. It was a good show. The "Martians" do entertain.

Haha, yeah. These tiny little icons don't do much for making people recognizable. :P Also, the guy who gave Scott the shoulder ride around the room is his brother, Joel Myrene. Hard to tell, though, because they look nothing alike.
